Exercise and Yoga Saved my LIFE!
A few years ago I suffered a HORRIBLE back injury!
I really thought that life the way I knew it was over, if you’ve ever had back pain or a back injury, you KNOW what I’m talking about right?
I suffered from back pain for a year before I had spinal surgery to repair my L4 and L5 discs in my lower back. For a month I couldn’t pick up anything, rotate my torso, drive, clean my house, you name it and I couldn’t do it! As a previously healthy and very independent person, it was devastating!
I thought I would NEVER get better…
I was so scared that I would re-injure my back, it left me emotionally paralyzed. At the time I was a single mom and my kids depended on ME for everything, yet I couldn’t run and play like I used to. It was a double whammy of EPIC proportions in my life at the time.
I was going to a chiropractor and a physical therapist every week until insurance would no longer pay for my treatment. I knew I had to do something to get my life back!
The first thing I did was get an exercise/therapy ball and a yoga mat. That is what I had been using at PT so those were my first steps in getting myself back on track!
Then I discovered from a friend, of a friend, of a friend (you know how that is) that she had great results with an inversion table. It was expensive so I didn’t buy it at first, I just kept watching the sales and youtube videos and knew I needed one. I didn’t want to spend the money, but then I realized it was basically the same price as going to PT 3 or 4 times. I had been paying that for months and I could have already had one for less than those sessions! Face Palm!
I got my life back…
Between hanging like a bat upside down a few times a day, and doing yoga and exercise ball therapy I suddenly had the strength and flexibility to be athletic and confident again. I started swimming, walking, playing tennis and doing Tae Kwon Do again (this is how I hurt myself to begin with). I even went on to get my black belt 1.5 years after my injury. It was a miracle!
Our bodies are meant to move!
The times when I was too busy (excuses clearly) to keep up my yoga and back routine, I suddenly began to have back pain again. Hmmm, not surprising really! Our bodies are meant to move, this is what keeps us healthy in all aspects of life!
